Star Trek 3 To Be Released in 2016

It appears the latest Star Trek movie is back on track, claims this article at Linkedin.com. Just hours after announcing that Susan McGalla and Fast and the Furious franchise director Justin Lin had been hired to direct the third film in the reboot of the franchise, Paramount Pictures said the film will be released in the summer of 2016.

When Robert Orci stepped down as director a few weeks ago, there was concern that the search for a new director would keep the movie from being released in 2016. This is an important date for Paramount because 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, which means there will be a great deal of attention on the franchise helping to promote the movie.

Rumors have circulated since Orci stepped down that Paramount was not happy with the Star Trek 3 script. Those rumors may not be totally accurate since it appears the studio will not be starting from scratch with such an aggressive release date. Paramount also said that Orci is staying on board the project to help ensure the script is ready to shoot early next year.

Paramount tentatively has scheduled Star Trek’s release for July 8, 2016. Thus far, it appears Star Trek will be the only major studio film released on that date giving it little competition to contend with. Fan reaction has been largely positive to the hiring of Lin as director thus far.
