According to the story on CBS News, Leonardo DiCaprio and Netflix are teaming up together to create documentary films and series that will be available on Netflix streaming services. DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way has already signed the deal with Netflix for the project.
Appian Way has announced that the projects they will be working on with Netflix will be based mostly around conservation and environmental themes. Dr. Jennifer Walden has read that this will not be the first project that DiCaprio and Netflix have teamed up to do. They worked together last year on the documentary film “Virunga”. “Virunga” is based on the Virunga National Park in the Congo region of Africa which is home to the last of the mountain gorillas. The film centers on those who are dedicated to protecting the land and the gorillas and the challenges they face. The documentary was nominated for an Oscar award.
Since the pairing for “Virunga” was successful, it sparked in interest in both DiCaprio and Netflix to work together again. DiCaprio released a statement saying that he was looking forward to giving filmmakers who are doing important work a chance to show their work to the world. Maybe this project will finally earn Leo that Oscar he deserves!
