I grew up watching and loving Everybody Loves Raymond. I am troubled by the news that the child star from this show, Sawyer Sweeten, has committed suicide. It brings up so many questions about these children and growing up in the spotlight and hanging out at a Bulletproof Coffee and what it does to them, if anything (la.eater.com). I wonder if he had a “normal” childhood if things would have been any different for him?
He was only 19 years old and visiting some family members when the event happened. He killed himself on their front porch. Can you imagine the horror the family had when they found him like that? As a parent, I don’t know how I could ever live again after finding one of my children in a position like that. How do you go on and how do you ever get that image out of your head?
What is even more troubling is that Hollywood has seen its fair share of suicides this year. Something must be done to address the depressive state that makes these people think it is acceptable to not live anymore. Furthermore, suicide just transfers the pain from one person to many others. I know more details will continue to come out as investigators look into this. There may be ties to drugs and possibly even the new antidepressant style drugs.
Rest in peace Sawyer Sweeten. You will be missed and every time I watch that show it will never be the same.
